TECHNICAL DETAILS 
  • Generally a rich dark plum or deep red tone, although orange and green garnet also exists.
  • Ranks 7-7.5 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. 
  • The red variant is generally from the Czech Republic, where it’s been missed for 500 years. The plum variant is more commonly from South Africa.
  • Garnet is composed of many metals, mostly aluminium, silicon & oxygen. 
  • The pyrope (red / plum) garnet is also contains magnesium, and gets its colour from iron and chromium.
