Generally a rich dark plum or deep red tone, although orange and green garnet also exists.
Ranks 7-7.5 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness.
The red variant is generally from the Czech Republic, where it’s been missed for 500 years. The plum variant is more commonly from South Africa.
Garnet is composed of many metals, mostly aluminium, silicon & oxygen.
The pyrope (red / plum) garnet is also contains magnesium, and gets its colour from iron and chromium.
