Moonstone

TECHNICAL DETAILS
  • Moonstone comes in three varieties – Indian Moonstone which resembles a crystal ball with a cloudy look, Blue Moonstone which is also cloudy but with a pretty blue tint, and Rainbow Moonstone which is similar to an opal with the shoots of baby blue, yellow, green & pink in it.
  • Ranks 6 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness.
  • Mined in Sri Lanka, India, Madagascar and Brazil among other sites.
  • Moonstone is a member of the feldspar family, known for an iridescence that shows when tilted to the light. Feldspars are calcium, sodium, or potassium aluminium silicates.
  • Traces of led and water are what create the beautiful colourplay – that’s the alternating layers of albite and orthoclase feldspar dancing in the light.
PHYSICAL & EMOTIONAL BENEFITS
  • Emotionally it is said to be a good emotional balancer.
  • It’s associated with women and their menstrual cycles, of course as it’s ruled by the moon.
  • It was once considered a cure for lunacy.
  • In India it’s a lucky gem, given from a groom to a bride at their wedding.
